What we changed

Strength Architect is in open beta and moves most weeks. These are the changes worth explaining — what broke, what we fixed, and what it means for your training. Try the free beta.

Train When Ready became a first-class way to train

Train When Ready drops the fixed weekdays without dropping the structure. One session is always current, and the app keeps the strength/hypertrophy rotation, exercise progression, and session order moving from what you actually complete.

  • Today really means today. The current session follows you to the day you open the app instead of becoming a fake missed appointment overnight.
  • Rest is explicit and bounded. Need another day? Push the current session by one, two, or three. Longer interruptions belong in Time away, where the whole range and its consequences are visible.
  • Nothing gets lost when you switch. Completed training, current session, exercise order, and progression all survive a move between Train When Ready and fixed training days.
  • The future stays honest. The app now keeps only the small upcoming window it needs, instead of pretending dozens of invisible appointments are already planned.

Scheduling stopped falling apart when real life moved a workout

Scheduled programs now keep one stable training order underneath their calendar dates. Postponing a session, pulling the week forward, or taking a trip no longer stretches a fake training cycle or leaves the plan disagreeing with what comes next.

  • Plan is a queue, not a block timeline. One clear next session plus the following four dated ones. The synthetic cycle ranges and misleading block endings are gone.
  • Reflow works in both directions. Move one session, or reflow that session and everything after it. Upcoming work compacts around your real training days, time away, and completed sessions.
  • Trips are reversible. Adding time away moves the affected chain together; removing it restores only the sessions you have not moved by hand since.
  • Built sessions stay safe. If an already-built workout moves, the app asks you to refresh its prescription before starting, so a stale tab cannot start the old appointment.

Every set-and-rep scheme now has to earn its slot

If a strength block kept serving speed work at 50–60% or endless singles — worst on the second and third lifts of the day — that was real, and it is fixed. When a lift’s preferred scheme could not fit the session’s volume budget, the engine fell back to the only schemes that skipped the volume checks entirely. The worst-hit blocks delivered under half their intended training stimulus.

  • Every scheme is budget-audited before it can be picked. Singles included. They are now sized against the slot’s volume target, so they appear where they belong — peaking weeks, deloads, days where lifts share a muscle group — and can no longer fill a full volume slot with eight lonely reps.
  • Unmeasured speed work is out of the rotation. 50–60% dynamic-effort work without bar-speed feedback was filler occupying a real training slot.
  • Readiness, age, and ramp-up now reach every lift. Those adjustments previously applied only to the first lift of a session, and silently.
  • Neural primers stopped taxing the main lift. A primer’s single rep was double-counting as a second lift sharing the muscle group, quietly cutting about 29% of the main lift’s volume.
